Testimonials

A short while ago I was fortunately introduced to the manual bodywork treatment known as Bates Therapy. As a massage therapist, in continuous clinical practice for the past nine years, with regular professional education upgrades which now includes being trained also in Bowen neurostructural integration technique, I have found Bates Therapy to be extremely effective for resolving chronic conditions. One of the things that impressed me the most was that I was able to apply the Bates Therapy technique immediately with immediate results. I am happy and so are my clients.

"The 8-Day Bates Therapy Course was fantastic! I'm finding that the muscle/tendon and ligament therapy is integrating into my (predominantly) Acupuncture and Remedial Massage Clinic very well. I find it gives me another way to treat musculo-skeletal problems and also helps my treatments to be even more effective, in its own right or as an adjunct to an Acupuncture / Remedial Massage treatment. I found doing the course has given me a new set of skills, enabling me to tackle problems that previously I may have only been able to get so far with, then had to refer on to another modality. Many thanks to Bev for developing and passing on a wonderful set of skills."

In 1993, I attended the Bates Technique Workshop believing it could be incorporated with massage. I was not disappointed. I had not understood until doing the workshop that ligaments could slip out of place causing fibers of the muscles to become unhealthy due to it being impossible to move as nature intended. No wonder some peoples' limbs take on an unnatural shape as they near old age. Ligaments lying out of place can weaken the structure of the foot thus creating problems in the legs and hips. I found searching with the fingertips for tendons and ligaments which were out of place and moving them back a very interesting and sensitive work The Bates Technique is a very good modality to combine with Swedish Massage, as most people wait until structural conditions have reached a chronic state before seeking help. Unless one is aware of the problems a ligament out of place can cause, a massage therapist can spend a lot of energy and time without giving the patient much relief The results of the Bates Therapy have been amazing for my patients as well as myself.

I have attended Beverley's two day workshop, and as an experienced practitioner, I found that her knowledge and understanding of the body and its malfunctions was vast. How she works and what she does, certainly brings good results - I found lots of helpful new techniques which I have incorporated into my practice of treating musculoskeletal disorders. We always pick up something and I certainly value what I learnt on my weekend. The work she has put into the manual is fantastic - a great reference book to have. Lots of very good information and she needs commending on the preparatory work and information she has done for the attending practitioners. I recommend the course as being beneficial and we never learn too much.

I have a diploma of Swedish Massage and Naturopathy and am an accredited teacher of Swedish and Remedial Massage. Since doing the Bates Technique, I have found that I can provide better patient care, and reduce the time needed to treat their problem. I suggest the Bates Technique Be taught in conjunction with Professional Massage.

A very bad hip problem forced me to consult two different Chiropractors and eventually an Orthopaedic Surgeon who suggested I should have a plastic hip replacement. In desperation, I went to Beverley Bates for muscle and ligament therapy and she was the first to level my hips for me (one leg was an inch shorter than the other). I trained in Swedish Massage but never gained full time employment, so I trained in the Bates Technique and I was able to open my own clinic, and have many patients who can testify to the relief gained from using this method of treatment. Learning this technique has taken me from being a masseur relieving pain temporarily, to being a therapist achieving long term relief by treating the cause of pain. I use the Bates Technique on a daily basis in my clinic with other modalities.

Queensland Workshop 2007

Clear precise practical, hands on learning experience, excellent workshop. Highlighted my awareness of muscle function, range of movement, and release of emotional/behavioural issues. Bates therapy helped me realise there is always another way forward to treat injury and relieve pain. Thankyou Bates therapy opened my mind to think outside the box. Beverley teaches in a very matter of fact way, can,t wait to benefit my clients. A small group suited me, with lots of practical and individual instruction. Thankyou Beverley for your happy relaxed manner and patience. A practical hands on workshop, with instruction manual, diagrams and pictures, great for me. Carol Heather,Leanne, Amber, Abbey

South East Victoria Workshop 2008

I want to say thankyou for what you taught us in your course. This work has changed my treatments to clients who have had issues for years, and have now turned the corner. It was so obvious! After being treated in class at the age of 47, I now feel better than I felt as a 20 year old, as the old scar tissue and muscle binding has gone, so I know that I can help others by using Bates Therapy. I have found my observational, palpitation and testing skills have improved. Clients are reporting back pain free, able to play a decent game of golf or tennis to function much more normally and are most grateful for Bates Therapy. Referrals are coming in thick and fast as word travels about Bates Therapy Technique for non-specific pain syndrome. Thankyou for this valuable gift you have given us. Tracey, Stacey, Katrina

24th March 2006. My name is Tony Jukes, I am 59 years old and have been in business in NSW for 35 years. For the last 8/10 years I have had aches and pains, hot and cold feelings in my legs and feet, a ripped calf muscle in my right leg playing tennis, plus blood clot which started in my right leg. I tried Doctors, Chiropractors, Foot people. Pills, Rub this and that. On 24th March 2006, I ended up on Bev’s table. I had one treatment and have been free of aches and pain. It’s been great, Thanks Bev, 2009

In August 1990, I suffered sever pain in my left hip. I had three sessions a week of intensive physiotherapy for 12 weeks with no improvement. My GP recommended I see an Orthopedic Surgeon, but instead I went to Beverley's Clinic. I had my first treatment and about two weeks later, a second. These two treatments were quite painful in themselves but as they say "no pain no gain ". The day following my second treatment I arrived at my office and it suddenly dawned on me that I had climbed the stairs free of pain! Beverlev points out we tune our cars regularly as so we should with our bodies. I now have regular tune-ups.
